Through the ages the human body has been an object of acute curiosity and has inspired studies of varying degrees and aspects. Chakra meditation is designed on one such particular and interesting aspect of the human body. Chakra meditation recognizes that the human body has various points of energy that are pivotal in influencing our actions both on a conscious and unconscious level.
The term "chakra" describes seven such points of energy which govern that particular area and each of these points possesses its own unique quality and chakra meditation involves meditating on each of these seven points of energy. The focus of chakra meditation is to awaken the energy points in the human body thereby creating a positive flow of energy which can be used to dispel any negative feelings and emotions.
Let us briefly learn a little about each of these chakras.

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and is depicted by four golden petals that surround a red circle. This chakra by its very location is vital as it affects the structure, health and the well being of a person. Also referred to as the coccyx or muladhara as it is known traditionally, is associated with how the body link’s to the material world.
Navel Chakra
The navel chakra also called the svadisthana as is obvious is located in the lower abdomen and governs feelings of love, passion and sexuality. The color that depicts the navel chakra is orange and people experiencing any of the above feelings will register a response in this area.
Solar plexus Chakra
Located just above the navel chakra, the solar plexus chakra is thought to be detrimental with regard to will power and force. The color that depicts this region is yellow and shapes a person’s self control, discipline and authoritative abilities.
Heart Chakra
The heart chakra is found in the centre of one’s chest and is traditionally known as anahata. Noble feelings of love, understanding and peace are linked to this chakra and it is aptly depicted by the color green.
Throat Chakra
As is obvious, the throat chakra or vishuddha is located in the throat region and governs communication and is associated with the color of the sky.
Brow Chakra
The brown chakra or the anja is located on the forehead just above the eyes and is associated with matters outside the physical senses. Often referred to as the "Third Eye" by Buddhists, the brow chakra, this clairvoyance-related focus point is also associated with the color indigo.
